Back in Black (Font)

I'm back.  I took the week of the Fourth off, and i hope you did as well.
I've read your comments, and I will be responding to them as the summer dwindles. I urge you to encourage those who have signed up for the course and haven't posted to this little thing to do so.

This week is extremely easy.

What have you seen this summer?  Did it have any deeper meanings or was it just something with explosions that kept you in the air conditioning for two hours?  Film is literature, and it possesses some of the same ability to move people..Your reply should be concise and succinct.  Include the title, director, and top billed stars,  Give a one-sentence summary and your thoughts.  Please mark spoilers so that others can have a fair chance.

See.

Easy.

This is a clip from a very important film. Boyhood

A fine choice for a Midsummer Eve.

  1. I watched 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'. It was directed by Michael Bay (explosions everywhere). The main character, Sam ( played by Shia LaBeouf), has to stop the Decepticons from transporting their home planet to earth and save his girlfriend, all the while trying not to die. I thought that it was well made and well-rounded.

  3. I just finished watching World War Z starring Brad Pitt. It was directed by Marc Forster and included a variety explosive collisions. The gist of the movie is simple, there is a zombie outbreak, and it must be stopped. I thought it had an original plot for a zombie movie.

Spoiler: Brad Pitt dies and the world is doomed.

  5. I didn't watch any movies that I can think of...I however did watch Breaking bad. Breaking bad is created and directed by Vince Gilligan, the main actors are: Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.
Breaking bad is about a chemistry teacher that gets diagnosed with lung cancer, causing him to begin to cook meth to provide for his family
I really enjoy this series because of the way they cause you to be both sympathetic and empathetic. This is because you would feel sorry for them, but you're kind of living it yourself. It's also not got many very obvious flaws like other shows.

  6. I recently watched the movie "Tammy". It is directed by Ben Falcone and it's top billed cast members are Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon. In this movie, Tammy (Melissa McCarthy) pairs up with her alcoholic grandmother Pearl (Susan Sarandon) to hit the road after losing her job and discovering her husband has cheated on her. This movie is a true comedy and I recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor.

  7. The only new movie I've watched this summer is Frozen. It is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. It stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad. Basically Queen Elsa freezes the kingdom with her magical ice powers and runs away, her sister Anna and some friends set out to bring her back, Elsa nearly kills Anna, and Elsa finally saves the kingdom by thawing it out with love.
It was a cute kids movie. Nothing deep or thought provoking about it. My favorite thing about it was the snowman Olaf.

  8. Because of work and other reasons, I have not really watched many movies this summer. One I watched here recently though was the movie "Non-Stop". It was directed by Juame Collet- Serra. The stars include Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and Scoot McNairy. Throughout the whole film Liam get text messages saying that someone is hijacking the plane he is on, as he is trying to catch the hijacker without comletely harming everyone else the man sending the massages is making everything liam does turn around on him. Making it look like Liam is in fact the one hijacking the plane. In the end he ends up catching the guy and proves himself innocent. I did not find any deeper meaning to this movie. Just something interesting to watch.

  9. One movie I watched this summer was "Blended" which was directed by Frank Coraci and the top billed stars were Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This film was made to show how sometimes it takes time to adjust to a blended family. This movie hit home with many Americans because a large majority of families are blended. In this film Jim Friedman and Lauren Reynolds go on a trip for blended families together and it helps both the Friedman and Reynolds family become one.

In the movie, John Cale (Tatum) wants to be on the president's (Foxx) security detail, he is denied the job and stays to take his daughter on a tour, terrorists take over the White House and Cale ends up having to keep the president safe. 13. The movie I watched was Gran Torino. It was directed by Clint Eastwood, who was also the star/protagonist in the movie. This movie showed how a very racist man looked past his stereotypical views and became closer with another race than his own family. I thought it was a very tragic and truthful movie.

  14. The movie I watched was called "The Fault in Our Stars". The movie was directed by Josh Boone and the main characters are Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. This movie is about to teenagers with terminal sicknesses. I though that the movie was very good and moving, the deeper meaning to me was that you should do all the things you have opportunities to because life is to short not to.

  15. The movie I watched was called "Sex Tape". It is not a porno it is a movie. It was directed by Jake Kasdan and the main characters are Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz. This movie is about a married couple who video themselves doing the dirty and the tape goes missing. It was an okay movie I rate it three stars, the deeper meaning to me was don't video your partner and you having fun in the bed.

  16. This summer I have not done any movie or television watching for recreation. I watched “Nell” for my psychology class. Michael Apted directed “Nell” and Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson were the top stars in it. It is about a woman who is raised in the woods by her mother, and must be admitted into society due to the death of her mother. It was fairly interesting in how Nell has learned to communicate and the different things she has learned about life even though she has never experienced them.

  17. One movie I saw this summer was 22 Jump Street, the sequel to 21 Jump Street. Starring Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Amber Stevens, it was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. In 22 Jump Street, two police officers go undercover as college students to find out who is dealing a new drug. I thought it was very funny and enjoyable, and there was definitely no deeper meaning to this film.

  18. I watched Dawn Of The Planet of the Apes. I honestly thought this was going to be a ridiculously stupid movie, but it was one of the best ones I've seen recently. The creator is Pierre Boulle and the main characters are Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, and Judy Greer. This movie does have a deeper meaning. You can't trust everyone.

  19. This Summer i watched Transformers: Age of Extinction. So as you may have already guessed, every few seconds something goes boom. This one has to be my favorite out of all of them though. It was directed by Micheal Bay. The movie follows a poor inventor, played by Mark Wahlberg, who finds Optimus Prime in hiding. A group of scientists have come together to destroy the autobots while another group is trying to create more from the head of Megatron. In doing this they create an even bigger threat. I found the film very enjoyable. no deep meaning for me. I was just in it for the fun.

  23. This summer, I watched "The Fault in Our Stars". It was directed by John Green and the stars consisted of Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley. This movie was about 2 cancer patients falling in love. Cliché, I know but it really was eye opening on how difficult it is for families of those with cancer. I also watched "Gods Not Dead". It was directed by Harold Cronk and the stars were Shane Harper, Duck Dynasty and NewsBoys. Which was an incredible movie. It's about a college professor whom is an atheist, challenging one of his students to prove that God is real. The student proves it and changed many lives of other people. This movie was great because it shows how much of an impact you can have on other people. It also shows that you can do anything through Christ. I also watched "RoboCop" but it didn't have any significant meaning. It was just a cool movie.

  24. I watched the Croods this summer. The directors are Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders. The top billed stars are Nicholas Cage and Emma Stone.
This story is about a family trying to survive in the "cave man" days with a overprotective father and a daughter who likes to explore. A bad concoction to begin with. I loved this movie because the father daughter relationship is definitely something I can relate to almost on a scary level. Overall it was a great movie ,and it kept my daycare kids occupied.

  25. I watched "Moms' Night Out" this summer. Directors include Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin with a cast including Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, Patricia Heaton, Trace Adkins, and Logan White. In this film, three moms go out for a night without children and everything goes wrong. Depending on the person, it can have a deep meaning. What I got out of it was that God put you on this Earth for a reason and no job is too small.

  26. This summer I've viewed many movies, but I tend to like true stories or biographies most. The Wolf of Wall Street has been the best so far its the true account of Jordan Belforts quick success in a stock market scam. The director is Martin Scorese. With actors Leonardo Dicaprio, Jonah Hill, Matthem McConaughey, and Margot Robbie. I found no true deeper hidden meaning, other that not to choose drugs, alcohol and money over your family.

  27. This summer I watched the movie "Neighbors" directed by Nicholas Stoller. This movie featured Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Rose Byrne as the main characters. Neighbors is about a young family who moves into a quiet little neighborhood. However, when the house next to them gets sold to a fraternity, their world is turned upside down. The rest of the movie is basically about the raging war between the two households. I did not find a deeper meaning in this movie. If anything it promotes drug use and partying instead of teaching us not to do it.

The director was Ben Falcone. He is married to the lead actress in Tammy, Melissa McCarthy. He has directed What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Bridesmaids, and others.
